LiveBlocking Today
Brent Axe says that Daryl Gross will be "On The Block" today in the five o'clock hour. I'll start the live blogging at that point.
4:56pm: After the hard break here, we will finally have DOCTOR Daryl Gross on the program. Hopefully Axe gets to my important question regarding the future of the basketball program...
5:02pm: Apparently my webhost is having some troubles and updates aren't getting sent at this time. It would be really slick if the hamster on the wheel in my mother's basement would run a little faster so we could get this thing going...
5:04pm: All these car commercials during the break remind me of the $600 I had to spend to fix mine this past week. I'm going to be feeling that for a while longer.
5:07pm: Here is the good DOCTOR. With the way DOC is talking, he sounds extremely hopeful that Greene would actually come back after the pre-draft camp.
5:09pm: The DOC just used the phrase "needs some tweaking". Now doesn't that sound like a mother's basement kind of phrase?
5:11pm: I guess DOC and McNabb are good buddies. Whats the over/under on how many times they are grabbing a beer on a weekend they are in town?
5:13pm: DOC tosses out the Dynasty moniker, not in reference to the Men's program but rather in reference to the Women's program. I can just picture Chandrea Jones tossing up the Dynasty symbol after dropping 20 on Rutgers.
5:16pm: Axe tosses out a great question about Title IX. DOC agrees that it is a factor when looking at sports to bring on or take away. He also mentions that it has a lot to do about the financials. I think it has a lot more to do with the financials than with Title IX, however.
5:19pm: The Axeman asks what the number is to consider Syracuse Football a success. DOC comes back with the fact that you can't look at just the numbers. DOC says it will be very obvious that progress is being made. DOC says he believes in the bottom line (read: wins). Let's see if there is actually an improvement in the bottom line.
5:24pm: Now we have some email questions. The first one is in regards to parking. DOC says that they tried to offer a concessions coupon to try and offset some of those costs. However, he did say that the parking costs were raised to "help keep the athletics department going".
5:25pm: The next question is about the commercialization of the Dome. DOC would like to do "less with it", but that is just the "nature of the business".
5:26pm: DOC referenced a Crunch game he went to that the lights went out in. He sat three rows behind me. Because I stole his seats. True story.
5:27pm: DOC talked about putting together one of the best coaching staffs in the country. The only coach he really didn't mention was Greg Robinson. Very interesting...
5:29pm: Axeman talked about how this is the most important season in Syracuse Athletics and DOC keys right in on it and talks about the National Championships that were won at USC. Can we win just one here before we start talking about that sort of winning culture?
5:33pm: And that is the end of the interview. Axe is hitting a break, which is good because I need to leave work for my other job.
I'll talk more about this later.
